“Welcome! And gather round to hear a story of excitement, trepidation and promise. They left the rich, rural countryside in search of the vibrant suburban delights awaiting them… but I have a little secret: there is something special to discover on your arrival,” said the fox with knowing smile. “Not all stories have a happy ending. Does this one? Well, my dear, you shall soon find out…”
Join the artist and an array of woodland creatures on a voyage of discovery through engaging, humorous and, at times, kitsch fine art photography. Using narrative and performance throughout her work, Sarah Crew highlights the current ecological concerns of a rapidly expanding suburbia and, with international travel no longer a luxury, an increasingly busy air space. She explores the challenges that these changes bring to both human and animal lives as their worlds being to collide.
Control, manipulation, the concept of the survival of the fittest and a sense of community all have a part to play in her elaborate photographic stories.
A limited edition book to coincide with the exhibition tells the stories behind the photographs, and a flight manual, developed in collaboration with low flying pigeons, provides a complete guide for leaving the ground successfully.
Sarah is a photographic artist, regularly exhibiting in the UK and the US. Her fine art photography focuses on current social and ecological matters, which she explores through character creation using both herself and animals as models. Locations become stage sets to aid her story telling and encourage wider discussion. Her work is complimented by two books, giving an opportunity to see the stories, ideas and extensive research behind the work, while giving you an insight into the artist’s imagination.
