Yann Sivault, between January and March 2008 went to Lusaka, Zambia to run photographic workshops with disadvantaged children, living in local community centres which have the aim to support a portion of the local residents as well as to keep the children away from the troublesome streets of Lusaka. The month long workshop culminated in showcasing the children’s work in Lusaka. This exhibition not only includes the children’s final project works, but also the photographer’s own impressions and experience of Zambia. In a series of photographs, Yann Sivault documents the workshops as well as the young people’s daily lives within the centres.
“These series of photographs represent the relationships that we built throughout the workshops and the children’s enthusiasm at the creative opportunities provided by the project. With this exhibition I want to celebrate the passion those young people still retain for life in a country which can’t at present provide them with many opportunities.” (Yann Sivault 2008)
